Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot Evaluation in Sonoma County

In 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned guaranteed income as an anti-poverty strategy that could help households and individuals achieve financial stability and access economic mobility. In recent years, communities across the country have pursued that vision by implementing their own guaranteed income pilot programs.

SPR is proud to partner with First Five Sonoma County and their collaborative partners as the evaluator for Sonoma County’s Guaranteed Basic Income pilot, called Pathway to Income Equity. Starting in January 2023, 305 pregnant individuals and/or households with a child under six years old, disproportionately impacted by the pandemic will receive $500 per month for two years. SPR will employ a multi-method evaluation, using surveys, interviews, and Photovoice to capture the experiences of the participants and the outcomes from the pilot program.
