In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SPR’s focus has been on the health and safety of our employees, the partners with whom we work, the clients we serve, and the communities in which we live and work. Accordingly, SPR’s staff have been working remotely since March 16, when most Bay Area counties implemented shelter-in-place policies, and will be doing so at least through May 1, in compliance with current health and public directives. Although we value the collaboration and community achieved by having our staff work in the same location, we have in recent years invested in software, hardware, and other technology infrastructure to allow us to accomplish remote work as needed. Because of this, we are extremely confident that we will remain fully functional and be able to continue our valuable work for our clients during this unprecedented time.
While we have halted all employee travel or on-site data collection, we are adapting our work to account for what has become our temporary “new normal.” To date, our new normal has included innovating and implementing virtual activities to accomplish large group meetings and trainings, as well as data collection that would have otherwise taken place on site. In partnership with our clients, we have also adjusted data collection activities and timelines as appropriate to recognize the unprecedented situations facing those from whom we are charged with gathering data. Two of SPR’s core values in our approach center on flexibility and centering community need—both of which are guiding us as we navigate the uncertain times ahead.
