Diversity and equity are important themes present within much of SPR's work. We have provided technical assistance to foundations and community-based organizations that seek to measure community, organizational, and individual change. In this work, we emphasize approaches that recognize the assets and challenges of diversity and culture difference and prioritize the goal of self-determination for diverse individuals and communities. We have expertise in helping clients integrate diversity in funding strategies and grantmaking practices. For instance, we completed a field-building project focusing on synthesizing culturally competent evaluation strategies in healthcare delivery.
The majority of our evaluations focus on programs and strategies that support vulnerable communities of color, and address racially and ethnically diverse youth populations. Our research on how to promote "border crossing" and ethnic and racial identity development among adolescent populations has captured national attention from educators, funders, and policy makers. In addition, we have conducted multiple large-scale evaluations and research for the U.S. Department of Labor that focus on specific subpopulations of interest, such as Native Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, and migrant and seasonal farmworkers.
